In what ways is the "Board of Harmony" ironic?

Its very title is ironic. The "Board of Harmony" provoked anything but harmony in the extended family. Maya thought it would help her be integrated into the family if she made sure Adrian remembered all the important occasions; the family members, however, thought they'd been doing just fine without it and it was one more thing that made them resent Maya. No one ever expressed the hostility and resentment overtly. that added to the "Who wrote the e-mails" mystery, because it was fairly apparent that almost everyone in the story except Adrian and Luke, the two who really did love Maya, could have been a believable author of the e-mails.

The board was meant to help Adrian keep track of his children and wives, but really it allowed him to become even more detached from them. He could feel like he was being attentive if he did all he things on the board when in reality he was less connected to his children and didn't really know them. And with Maya buying "suitable" gifts he didn't even have to think about the children's needs. The board departmentalized Adrian's life even more than it was.
